DPaste.org - source is available and was created by an old coworker. I’ve used it for years
Snaps are crap. Not using them is one of the main reasons I’m considering switching to Mint
Shit. I misread. OP’s image is for the whole fediverse… 🤦♂️
But still…no way that’s active users
Although FediDB claims we have about 418k active
Nope, that’s gotta just be registered users. We’re kidding ourselves and don’t even have 200k active users
*update: this is just Lemmy users, but OP was talking about all of the fediverse *
Firefox needs to ship with IPFS & IPNS built in, then we’d have a Distributed web. Which is I think what you’re asking for maybe?
Whaat? That’s crazy. I didn’t realize that
This is great news. Being able to tap into hardware acceleration for AV1 will be crucial to it taking off. And all 3 of the major GPU vendors have support now.
I certainly have no interest in buying one as long as he’s still involved
You need the “Userland” programs. Basic things like ls
, cp
, cat
, etc. Usually it’s GNU core tools, but there’s also BusyBox or BSD equivalents.
It’s not FOSS, but Google’s adding this feature right into Photos
No, you’re moving the goal post. A company like Comcast offering a symmetrical service is huge, regardless of what the underlying technology is capable of. They could have been offering 200 megs symmetrical with Docsis 3.0, but they didn’t. They restricted customers to 11mbit uploads. This is a big deal
False. Comcast is finally caving and is beginning to roll out 2 gig symmetrical https://www.engadget.com/comcast-starts-squeezing-2-gbps-symmetrical-internet-speeds-through-decades-old-coaxial-cables-143657830.html
Mainly with the bootloader, but also a few device drivers. But this was like 6 years ago and UEFI was still new. So maybe it’s better now. Generally the older your hardware the more likely it is to be supported
The last time I tried installing on a MacBook I had all kinds of problems. Maybe it is better now, but I’d suggest starting with a traditional PC if you’re brand new to Linux
I’ve been wondering about all this tech and what’s going to happen to it. Surely some other company would be interested in buying it and taking over where they left off. Maybe Redbox?
Now that streaming services are jacking up their prices and people and cancelling, it seems like a perfect time for a resurgence in physical media rental, ironically.
Nvidia has all but backed out of the mobile chip market, and those chips are what this line used. So that’s why we haven’t seen any updates in years. But the good news is they have made a new chip for Nintendo’s next-gen switch coming out sometime next year. So within a year of that coming out, I would expect to finally see a new Shield or Nvidia TV or whatever they call it, using a similar chip to what goes in the Switch 2
In my case it’s a sign I might should try out PC gaming again. I’ve been console exclusively for like 15 years now because so few games used to work. But with Steamdeck’s popularity we might actually start seeing more than 10% of games getting native ports 🤞
