So everything you are saying agrees with me. People are just upset that I said the OS was designed for handheld game consoles

From what I know about it, it has a modified kernal that is smaller cutting out support for a few things . Smaller kernal, standardly more efficient and stable. Throw in that it comes in a read only setup that will wipe changes added via pacman the next time you do an update. Customizability is also limited. Flatpacks better than snap many will argue, but snap won’t even run on SteamOS from what I’ve read even after manually dialing the read only mode and knowing you will have to reinstall all your changes after the next update.
That doesnt sound like regular arch to me.
I don’t, I was saying it makes sense that bringing a steak knife to cut the steak would work better than a Swiss army knife.
So you are saying SteamOS is not designed/tuned to be used primarily for games on a system without a keyboard/mouse?
Maybe I’ll look into Heroic tomorrow, thanks for the info though, never used it before
Ever found a way around Lutris asking for a CD for games? I was using Lutris and one of the games I tried installing from a mounted ISO installed, yet I can’t find any way to get Lutris to recognize the mounted drive as the CD. Tried adding it to Steam as a non-steam game as well and get the same result. Tried various versions of proton and wine, but I assume I need to direct it to the ISO somewhere… But couldn’t find anyone who had an answer online.
Device made with software specifically for purpose performs better than generic machine with generic software designed to do a wide range of things. All of my machines are on Linux distros, but this just seems like a no brainer to me. It’s like years ago when the mustang had a 4.6L V8. It was the same engine used in the Ford explorer. Will the Mustang beat the Explorer to 60, of course. But the Explorer will also transport 5 people to the beach with coolers and beach gear and drive in the sand.
It’s good that SteamOS is doing well, but the variety of tasks people are using Windows for cannot be performed on SteamOS.
Well they are wearing masks and striking fear on a civilian population for a political agenda, so I think your terminology is textbook.
I run Mint Cinnamon on a machine in my room for media. But also run a Jellyfin server off a pop_os server. My partner has a laptop that she updated to Win 11 that has had Audio issues ever since. When I boot to a live disk (linux), no issues. I’ve tried so many fixes for her system and it appears her step mother is having the same issue on another Win 11 machine. I’ve been trying to find a way to ensure she can run all the games she likes on an OS without being a headache. The Sims (probably 2,3,4). Stardew Valley, and such. Steam I have had luck with, but The Sims seems to come from an EA app which I believe I can run through Lutris. I have been hesitant to move that laptop because I want to be sure all of her games will end up working without hours of configuration that may break when she mods something in the game and needs a reinstall of the game itself. Has anyone had any luck with the EA app? I figure if she’s paid for the licenses, I would rather use them than torrenting it all.
Mint Cinnamon was what I figured I’d use for that laptop, but if someone has a better suggestion I’d like to hear it

Apparently this must be because I was VPN’d to turkey at the time I was trying to respond to a message
Mine have a 20ftx10ft run that’s covered, and I leave the gate open so they can go out when they want and explore the woods behind. It’s an acre lot that I just rent half the duplex. Neighbors on all sides like them. They all get free eggs. One neighbor got yelled at by his wife though because he was buying food for them to put over by his truck so theyd come around more and hang out, which means of course they are more likely to shit near where they park there vehicles. obligatory forest chickens:
I was thinking Nixon banned it in 1970, but that was paint apparently, it appears the partial bans started in 85 on gas, and complete ban was done under Clinton in 96. I don’t know anyone with chickens on a lot smaller than a acre, but maybe that’s just a regional thing around me. I can’t see how you could have free range chickens on a quarter acre lot, they’d just fly over privacy fences and piss off neighbors Id assume. But maybe three are more people doing that than I knew
Unleaded gas became standard in the 70s. If you live in a dense city that was built 40+ years ago and eat eggs daily and are a small child, you may reach the non-recomended intake amount, barely.
Most people with a backyard big enough for chickens don’t live in the urban areas that had such dense lead exposure anyways
Anything i should look out for? I mostly just figured avoid anything online fps for a bit. I used to like variety of genres.
Series I remember playing:
Age of Empires/mythology Dragon Age Elder Scrolls Ace Combat Grand Turismo Assassins Creed Jedi Outcast / Jedi Academy (Outcast gameplay shit on KOTORS) KOTOR (Storyline shit on Academy’s) The Sims Resistance fall of Man GTA (I’m sure ive forgotten everything from Dreamcast but that’s to far back) Tenchu gets honorable mention though from before the Dreamcast
last 5 years:
It takes Two A Way Out Minecraft Hogwarts Legacy ARK
Games are in no particular order and I’m sure I’ve skipped a bunch. Likely remembered more big games than small ones. But I’ve played PC / Super Nintendo/Dreamcast/ PS2 / PS3 / PS5 /GB color / a few Xbox throw ins. Tbh I’m not sure I’ve played a single game for PS5 that I couldn’t have played on an earlier console, but I didn’t skipped all of the 4th generation? so it seemed uncostworthy to buy a PS4 vs a PS5 in late 2023.
Anything you recommend? Haha
A bit of Xbox and PlayStation, but really not much. Played ARK Survivor for a bit, and I know I played through “A Way Out”
Couch co-ops mostly. Maybe 50 hours playtime since 2016 I’m guessing haha
Edit: Nevermind, we would play Wheel of fortune when shit faced on PlayStation, so maybe another 50 hours there
I’ll have to look into this, thanks for the suggestion. Been installing games with Lutris, then if they don’t work I try all the proton versions there, then try non-steam games and still run into some that I just give up on. Having a mounted ISO on games that ask for a disk on startup I haven’t figure out a way to get Lutris/Steam to recognize yet. Hopefully this will help.
I have found that games like The Sims, and Stardew Valley are the most consistent at working easily. Which is good, spouse enjoys those
