3·1 year agoWould it be a good practice to install minimal Debian and learn to use Nix package manager with it?
If possible, buy an old Thinkpad for 50-100 bucks and install on a real hardware for the best experience.
I have no experience with any Mac hardware, but Virtualbox has improved a lot during the years. It won’t have accelerated graphics, but still fast and responsive.
You’d expect MPV was published by MIT or Bell Labs in late 1970’s because it is so good, can do literally anything while remaining lightweight. But no, it is released in August 2013.
2·1 year agoWell, that’s good to hear then. Hopefully it stays on that track. EU and US is banning encrypted messaging currently at the same time though. And India already illegalized them, but Indian people says that so far it hasn’t affected anybody by any means.
I don’t know how things function in the US, but here in Europe it’s already pretty much a standard that average joes has totally the opposite opinion what media claims to be the result.
And when multiple other polls with multiple time more responders shows the opposite result, media is always silent.
Our politicians started to push biometrics / strong identificitation last year or this for every people who connects to internet. That’s just step closer to that “you have no pricacy” conspiracy theory created by conpiracy theorist politicians.

I have 4 icons displaying the current amount of volume with white background and for mute I use red background. It was super easy to set in the config file even I don’t speak C++.

For volume control, I use Wireplumber:

- To lower the volume bindsym XF86AudioLowerVolume exec wpctl set-volume @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SINK@ 1%-
- To mute/unmute the volume bindsym XF86AudioMute exec wpctl set-mute @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SINK@ toggle
- To mute/unmute the microphone bindsym XF86AudioMicMute exec wpctl set-mute @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SOURCE@ toggle
For icon I have configured the swaybar. I don’t use notifications, thus they’re simple to set for bindsym (above) if needed.

I don’t know what this ‘gallium’ is. But your computer has a powerful x86 cpu, so any regular distro will work just fine.
Becuse it is your first distro, it should be something well documented (large user base) and stable.
I recommend you to format your biggest usb stick with Ventoy2Disk and it’ll be the last time you’ll ever format.
With Ventoy you can try any distro in Live mode without installing anything in your computer before you’re found your favorite.
