The college degrees I earned in an attempt to get away from a soul sucking career: Nursing. First mistake was getting a fucking bachelors degree in nursing. That is not neccessary, because an associates degree would be sufficient. In fact, nursing needs to go back to more on the job training in an apprenticeship style program, hopefully run by a union rather than just the hospitals like in the old days. This requirement to have a bachelors degree in nursing that many jobs have is bullshit, and it’s just an excuse to get H1-B Filipina nurses (who work their asses off for less than US citizens) imported en masse. My next mistake was earning a degree in nursing informatics, which hasn’t done shit for me and now I find myself in a job I’m stuck in because I’ve been away from the bedside for so long. My third biggest mistake was earning a MBA in a further attempt to get the fuck away from nursing. Right now, MBA holders can’t get the jobs they would typically qualify for because the market is saturated. And maybe I could have done a dual MBA/MHA (master in health administration) degree in order to become one of the suits in a health system that makes the problems for nurses worse.

Now I don’t know what to do, and I want to die. I am seriously looking at switching over to become an electrician, specifically for low voltage. One of my previous jobs which was informatics related, I worked with those guys for a while. The worst thing they have to do is pull cable through tight spaces and up steep heights. Rest of the time they are using fine motor skills to connect smaller wires to the devices, and then programming them. I think I could hack it. The problem is, in the USA, things are getting politically and economically unstable, and a nursing license in another western country is more of a golden ticket out of this shithole of a country than any apprenticeship. If I had to flee at the drop of a hat, I would have to start an apprenticeship from the bottom again. At least nursing gives me a lifeline, even though the longer I remain a nurse, the more likely I am to want to kill myself. Even my therapist has noticed that, and has told me to leave.

Not so much a dream career but a dream escape out of nursing, but not completely out of nursing since that would mean starting over with a new degree, new shit to pay for, more debt. I got into informatics, hoping to capitalize on my nursing experience combined with my desire to make EMR software usable for the users. I didn’t go anywhere with that degree. I didn’t get a job as an informaticist. Now I’m stuck in a nursing job I hate and it is making me suicidal, and my BF is getting worn out because of my flare-up of CPTSD symptoms. He also suffers from anxiety so he feels a lot of what I feel. I am very intent on finding an apprenticeship program for a trade I think I’d be decent at: Communications or low voltage systems. I came back from an apprenticeship graduation event, part of the perks of being with my BF who works very closely with the unions who run them. I hope I can make a good career in this field.

Nursing is not a good choice for all of you if you are sick of your dead end jobs or dead end careers. Nursing is full of psychopathic beeaches. If you’ve ever gotten any bad vibes from many nurses, this is why. I am getting out by hook or by crook. Yeah sure, it may destroy my chances of emigrating to a western country in the short term, but long term, I think I’d be better off. And I could still parlay any new trade skills into permanent residency in another western country. However, I also got my nursing license in British Columbia. I’m still torn.

I’m not sure where you got that we only want one party in an independent California? Once CNP successfully fights for independence, then other parties can spring up. For example, in South Africa, the African National Congress were the big fighters against apartheid. No they are just another (corrupt) political party. Another example is the Indian National Congress. Members of that party fought for independence from the UK. Now, its just another political party, and they have not had any sort of power since 2014. CNP would have a place in an independent California. But the future after that, up in the air.

Nah, countries like the UK and Canada have just as much diversity you mentioned. Canada is well positioned to take over many soft power aspects that the USA was known for.

Now more than ever, I don’t want to pay taxes except at the state level. If Medicare and social security will go the way of the dodo bird, why should I pay? If federal agencies that make this country a civilized country have been dismantled, why the fuck should I pay? If the military and security apparatus gets bigger yet we lose out on government services that actually benefit the people, why the fuck should I pay?

And I’m at the point where I will cut someone who tells me I HAVE to pay my taxes. Because the only thing keeping me from wilding out in real life and even on the internet is the threat of prison time.

Sure. Some people think it’s not necessary to have local anti-discrimination laws against minority groups here. Some people think why should LGBTQ get married in a fucking church, can’t they just sign a paper saying legally they are as good as married without sullying the institution?

My hill: Laws that give “unnecessary” rights to people are still good overall and shouldn’t ever, EVER, be reversed. Laws that give “unnecessary” rights keep society stable and have come from past times soaked in blood. If you reverse 60-100 years of these gains, then society will collapse.

The influence of the USA is waning among traditional allies. Now there’s even less of a reason to support Israel. They were only doing it to stay on America’s good side.

In the long run, Canadian banks will be in better shape, as well as the Canadian economy as a whole.
