Tech, from my experience, has a lot of job postings, but its very difficult to actually get an interview nonetheless a job. I’m not entirely sure why its so difficult, as there does seem to be a pretty big need for it across the board. My best guess is mix of companies needing employees but not being willing to hire/train them leading to “fake” postings (alongside those just meant for data collection), and just a generally competitive market right now.
I mean, he’s not asking for help rooting directly, or for people to feed him instructions on every one of these devices. His question is intentionally left open for any pointers people can give, from a “I rooted the Samsung and its pretty easy to do”, to links to other webpages (which are exactly the sort of resource someone would have bookmarked while also being a nightmare to find on Google), to -yes- full step by step instructions for those willing to provide. He’s asking for direction, not demanding someone do the work for him.
The textures are very different although those can be swapped out (albiet with very limitted options if you aren’t willing to build the pack yourself). Its more the lighting and shading I don’t like. They tend to look a lot more washed out and flat compared to Minecraft. Turning on the more intensive and/or experemental features helps a lot, but falls far short of whats easily available for Minecraft and makes the already iffy performance noticably worse.
In terms of performance, I was struggling to even maintain 144fps on MineTest with regular drops down to 90. I was finding I was getting about half the framerate on average compared to Vanilla Minecraft, with almost no difference running around loading chunks, and a significant advantage for Minecraft in more static areas. That said, Minecraft is a game with a massive modding scene with access to engine-level changes, and using a bunch of the more popular optimization mods mean I tend to be getting roughly double the framerate compared to vanilla Minecraft and four times that of Minetest.
Im sure stuff can be improved, but the userbase and development backing just isn’t there as it stands.
I’ve tried MineTest a couple times, and as much as I want to love it, its just so slow and clunky and ugly compared to Minecraft. I just redownloaded it, intending to grab screenshots to compare the visuals, but got fed up with the lag spikes, and how long it was taking to build a scene to match Minecraft before I could even finish that. I was getting performance comparable to a mid-weight Minecraft shader-pack just running on default settings.
Working as intended.
Pretty sure he’s saying they’re ignoring the vulnerabilities entirely, and instead trying to push the blame onto pen-testing tools. Like saying that a disease is spreading because of all the testing, rather than because they stopped treating the drinking water.
This is made to exploit them in the same way a knife is made to cut. It can be used for harm (although is a very weak, outdated tool for it that intentionally knee-caps this use) or it can be used for good, where it is a basic, unspecialized option that anyone can make or aquire. Like if the government tried to stop violence by banning knives, a ban would have little impact except on the least committed individuals (IE not organized crime) while being an annoyance to normal people by focing them to sharpen their own metal plates rather than buying them pre-made.
If they actually want to stop these crimes, more reasonable courses of action might be tracking what is shipped, acting on reports of stolen property, trying to impede large-scale organized crime when it is found, or requiring that vehicles maintain security protocols that take into account the existance of computers outside the vehicle.

So basically, the government doesn’t care about the issues and doesn’t plan to do anything about it.
The fact that it is a giant metal killing machine is there to highlight the service of those lost, and the conditions those lost served in. We’re remembering the sacrifice that comes with war, fighting with weapons like that, or even the fact that many practically lived in these vehicles. In the same way, we often depict soldiers in combat, or with other combat gear - it provides far more context to what these men went through and how they served than just a name on a plaque.
While this was obviously badly organized, putting a cenotaph from the local legion with a military relic, in a park literally called “Memorial Park” isn’t particularly offensive. The problem is just the fact that they decided to replace an existing (recently installed) garden without even informing the volunteers who maintain it.

Might be something to do with Chrome or that. I’m on Firefox and get a filled out home page when first loading youtube (no history or cookies, mid levels of fingerprint blocking). After logging in, I get the notification for disabled watch history, but not before.
Yep. Every time I open YouTube, before signing in, the much of the front page is just far-right conspiracies, blatant misinformation, and other sketchy content.
The war is largely in a stalemate at the moment. Odds are, if this continues for years longer, Russia will eventually win just by virtue of having more people to send to die for the country, but if it comes to that, Russia will suffer far moreso than they already are, both due to increased strikes within Russia and just loosing the majority of their working population.
Discord for games with friends, and for a couple niche pieces of software too small for forums.
Lemmy for broad-appeal topics like world news and less niche tech.
And Im not sure if it still counts when I just lurk now, but Reddit for everything else, since none of it moved over to lemmy. Gaming subreddits, more niche tech, history and accedemic topics, local and lifestyle stuff, ect.
Dig a big enough hole, build a proper structure for containing it, and implement the proper containment procedures and sure, my backyard is fine.

I mean, if they have that much knowledge of WW2, then they should understand the potential of Hunka being involved with the Nazis, and/or with the war crimes on the Eastern Front. My point is that you don’t even need to get to that level of depth or firmiliarity to see potential issues that could arise. Clearly they didn’t consider even the basic red flags that could come with an understanding of the depth, “Soviets vs Nazis on the Eastern Front.” No one involved in preparing the speech and inviting Hunka even thought to check which division he served in, nonetheless ensure he wasn’t a war criminal.
The system started to be phased out in the early 70s, with the last federally funded residential school was closed in 1996 (although there are also the issues caused by day schools to consider). There is absolutely still people around who had a significant part in the system, both in organization and administration, as well as staff directly in the system. To my knowledge, none, or nearly none have been prosecuted for their involvement in the schools.
