I was sick of seeing brain dead right wing and lib talking points being upvoted to the top of every thread. So it doesn’t surprise me that a lot of the Reddit immigrants are more right leaning.

Still, I am proof that at least some of us left Reddit because we found a home here surrounded by more left-leaning people. I find myself agreeing with a lot more people here than I ever did on Reddit.

If the Reddit fiasco didn’t happen I would have never even looked into Lemmy. I would imagine at least half, if not the majority, of Lemmy users joined around the same time.

I haven’t looked at Reddit since then, and I most definitely feel like Lemmy is much better than Reddit. I think you are focusing too much on the few Reddit immigrants that complain, and you interact with many of us that don’t complain, more often than not.

I wouldn’t call it a ‘very small minority’, personally.

Most people who actually have dark humor don’t really have to bring it up in conversation that often, because they aren’t assholes who use it as an excuse to say slurs and hateful/hurtful things.

The people who are normally quick to let you know that they have dark humor are the ones who use it as an excuse to say a bunch of gamer words, at least from my experience growing up.

I’m a leftist who dislikes capitalism, but I can admit that credit scores were a step up from the way loans were done before. The old way just made it so the banks themselves decided who they wanted to issue a loan to, and that led to a lot of racism and sexism when it came to giving the loans out.

Still, I do think we can come up with a better system than the current credit score system, and I think you have the right idea to point out it’s flaws to start the wheels turning on improving it.

I’d never heard of them, but I looked them up, and I don’t see anything in their declaration of beliefs to suggest that they think that God is bad or evil. They just seem to have an emphasis on praying to Jesus, but they seem to have pretty standard Christian belief that God and Jesus and the Holy Ghost are all parts of the same being.

I am not sure how aligned all of the different Church of God denominations are in their beliefs, but the main website for them seems to be pretty standard Christian stuff.

Mid to late 1990s in elementary school computer class. The teacher had us boot up Netscape Navigator on the old Macintosh, and browse to askjeeves or excite or yahoo(I just remember it wasn’t Google yet).

I haven’t seen Chuck Palahniuk mentioned, and he was very influential to a bunch of us millenials, I imagine. He is very good at writing about the nihilism of modern times.

Fight Club is the most popular example of his novels, and its a great read. I am also really particular to, Rant:The Oral Biography of Buster. Its such a weird story, and was one of the first books to really spark my interest in reading fiction. He has a bunch of other good novels I would recommend, like Snuff, Choke, and Lullaby.

I upvoted because Vonnegut is the GOAT and most definitely wrote some bangers after 1970, but his first well known books were published in the 1960s. So, he is pretty close to OPs cutoff for modern writers, I guess.

I would personally be happier with 20 something year old presidential candidates over the current trend of the battling octogenarians. At least the 20 something year old politicians would have to live a long time with the ramifications of their decisions and actions.

All censorship is bad. whether it’s a private corporation with a monopoly or a government doing it doesn’t matter, all censorship is bad.

I totally agree with you that the government should never be involved in censoring anything, but differ on private corporations, especially as far as the internet is concerned.

The internet as a whole should never be censored. People should always be able to make their own website with whatever they want on there, even if it will get them arrested. The owners of a website should always have control over the content that they allow, though.

If the owners of a company don’t want to see hate speech or extreme content on their own product than it should always be their right to remove it. If the majority of the public doesn’t want to see Nazi shit on a social media site then it will always be in that corporations best interest to remove it, or people will stop using it.

All censorship is bad, but some of it is a necessary evil to keep the internet from being flooded with hate speech, gore, and CSAM. I will say that some companies take it way too far with the things that they censor, and it sucks, but it is within their right.
