  • A digital cable that meets spec can’t be made better by gold plating or other bling. But a sub spec cable or a cable with some aspect degraded by damage or wear or contamination will introduce errors that will force the system to use whatever error correction is built in(such as with tcpip) that will hinder data speed. So, you can have a digital cable that works slower than spec but still “works”. Especially when you are running any sort of significant distance or there is noise such as fromn ac power.

My point is that even with digital connections a better cable can make a difference. Just on the low end not the high end.

  • Yeah it’s been many years but I remember trying the official reddit app and it simply didnt work. I installed rif and it was perfect. I used rif for many years. Countless hours just scrolling my carefully curated subs.

So sad. When I launched it and it gave me an error that day the api changes kicked in, it felt like a friend just died.

    Snif.

I think the fediverse might just be ok tho. These networks taking off right now are thanks to spez. Lol.

  • Rats are actually very good pets. You’ll need 2 because they are super social. They are very clean and smart, and it’s possible to train them. We had some when my kids were small and one would ride around on my shoulder. Super cute.

Also, they’re cheap. But they don’t live very long. They aren’t hypo allergenic but they’re so small it isn’t a problem, my wife is allergic to cats and regular dogs and she didn’t have an issue.

Or, get a non-allergy dog. There’s lots of doodles and shitzu mixes out there now.

  • I’m doing the audio books, but that doesn’t make it any easier to follow. I thought player of games was absolutely fantastic and brilliantly written, but I’ve found some of the books very complex.

With player of games he never actually describes the nature of the game board itself. I think that was intentional, he left it up to the reader. I found that fascinating.

I’m a bit of an aspiring author and this series is quite frankly inspiring. Not in it’s confounding complexity but all the good bits.

Some of it is hard to visualize but for me sometimes it’s hard to follow. I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds him challenging.

The one I’m on now seems to have elephant people in it and I definitely didn’t quite put that together for quite a while lol.

As far as the nature of the culture, I don’t know if any one book does a better job of describing the universe. Each book illustrates one facet of it, in my opinion. It’s a big universe he’s made, you get snapshots.

It’s like he has this universe in his head and with each book he is exploring one specific topic of discussion, in the culture universe, and with each book it sheds a little more light onto what the culture really is.

It reminds me of the stainless steel rat series. Deep and meaningful ideas tempered by humor and whimsy.
