i’ve recently had to accept that my neurodivergence makes managers, supervisors, etc. uneasy about me despite my stellar track record and the sole reason why i was able to maintain continuous employment was because of my high demand skill set; which means that employment will become increasingly difficult as i continue to age.

in 2002 when my windows me computer start looping on the blue screen of death, with all of my college papers/essays/tests/assignments trapped in it.
the recovery media refused to work because i had upgraded the computer several times and i couldn’t afford the $180 windows xp cd. so i bought a linux magazine for $5 that included a copy of mandrake linux installation media and used paper printouts from my college’s computer labs to help me rescue my work from the computer.
i think of it as another distro, but with a really good eco system like redhat or ubuntu.
my favorite used to be a sauce named “amor” that was primarily centered around southern california and baja california.

i used to be one of those maintainers. it was my job to build server and container images so i had to spend a lot of time with the company’s internal distro maintainers and it always blew me away how much work they had to do.
i learned to stay away from midtown or battery-park/statue-of-liberty or any other tourist traps between friday afternoon and monday morning as a result of this.

This field is so incredibly lousy w people like us that it makes me marvel at the ones w the kind of job security that I crave because it means that their hyper focus not only aligns w the company’s profit line but they’ve also managed to have a tenure that steered clear of enough clueless neurotypicals to keep them from getting fired or on the chopping block for a layoff.
