Actual OP here: Christmas is “put on a performance” fake. It’s also many pagan holidays mashed together by the Christians and co-opted when arguably the date of their messiah’s birth was in another time of year. It’s also getting longer and longer so companies can sell more and more crap that just ends up as waste.

Is Festivus made up? Sure. But it’s genuine in it’s disdain for what Christmas has become and is a sincere protest. In the words of Frank Costanza: “As I was raining blows down on him, I realized there had to be a better way”

Do you miss the part where it’s an open rebuttal of the over commercialization of Christmas? Instead of wasting a bunch of time putting up decorations bought simply to fill some billionaires pockets, I’ll put up a steel pole.

I tried to buy the model from an artist recently for personal use(friend wanted some Mickey ears of a specific style). Person told me no and quoted me $130 with a 3 week wait time for a physical product that was something I could print in about an hour myself. For a Disney product they were already infringing on themselves.

Went elsewhere and found someone selling the model for $7. Figured that was fair for the effort to transform it into a model file.

Turned out I was wrong - only took me 20 minutes to print.

Hmmm, it’s almost like the study was testing peoples perception of the usefulness of AI vs the actual usefulness and results that came out.

Things like Spotify or your phone/earbuds themselves usually have a mono setting. I use it all the time when only wearing one earbud. Beatles songs are notorious for splitting vocals to one ear only.

The solution is already right there. But let me guess, “No, I want to use my old wired earbuds from 1995 and they should accommodate me in my archaic niche use case instead of me upgrading my earbuds to enjoy the new features developed like forced mono”?

While I agree with what you’ve said, I’ve always felt fusion and other such tech is the future of long distance space travel, not Earth based energy use. Wind and hydro are useless in space and solar has issues with power accumulation the further away from a star you go. We will still need some kind of “fuel” based energy source if we’re ever to enter deep space and cross the gaps(unless battery tech increases much further to the point that a “battery” lasts a significant portion of the vehicles lifetime). Even then, you’d need recharge stations at each end or to park by a star to refuel in between.

We have fusion/fission now. That kind of battery tech is still a ways off. Feels shortsighted to ignore nuclear now just because it’s not perfect in this specific environment. After all, name any vehicle not powered by nuclear that can run for 20-30 years before it needs to refuel/recharge. No battery tech can even come close currently.

Umm… Shouldn’t the first attempt have been unlikely? This literally proves Secret Service isn’t as competent as you believe.

When I grew up and the term was first coined, it refered to the generation coming after mine. It was literally “what will we call this next generation? Well, they’re growing up during the turn of the millennium…”. Then suddenly years later it included my generation. Then suddenly it includes the generation before me? When really it’s just a lazy replacement for “kids these days”.
