i can chime in with some actual experience!

my current problems with KDE are

• the greeter only accepts my password on the secondary monitor
• the compositor shuts down whenever something uses the GPU even though the setting is off
• my primary desktop randomly shunts itself to the right, plopping on top of the desktop on the secondary display and leaving a big black void on half my primary until plasmashell is restarted
• my panels keep collapsing their content down to the width of a single pixel until i resize them
• Wayland just crashloops and is completely unusable (no, i don’t have an nvidia card)
• i still can’t get the acrylic transparency to work :(

and what’s fun about this is, the issues are so intermittent and random that i never know what i’m going to get on a given day!

as i understand it, the money goes to the foundation, and it’s the corporation that develops the browser. so it’s probably not strictly forbidden, but it does imply that the money is not for browser development.

in the health sector specifically, IT is a mess because you can’t stop people from working or there will be deaths. one thing you should take away from this is that their jobs are important and it is crucial that they can do them. it is your job to support them; anything that stops them doing their job or makes it take longer, even once, is dangerous. improving infra for its own sake is not a good idea because it comes at the risk of peoples lives. the details don’t matter in the face of that.

if this stresses you out, you can absolutely change jobs. i did.

if you think you can work within those parameters, and you think you can find ways to improve the system in-place while mitigating the risks, then you will be highly respected.

mozilla takes donations, but they don’t fund Firefox development with that money. that’s usually what people have against it.

and I went back to check, it was imported by a costume shop in collaboration with hard rock cafe in the early 90s but the decision from the board of business to encourage people to spend for this holiday came in 97.

halloween was imported into this country by a costume shop in 1997. this is common knowledge and the shop itself is very proud of this fact. because of this it is an explicitly consumerist holiday, and it is younger than me by a good margin. i do not know anyone who celebrates.

it’s less about the details and more about the entirety of the experience for me.

i harp on it a lot, but Outer Wilds helps me a lot. It teaches the value of exploration, curiosity, friendship, compassion, and patience. it’s a deeply melancholic piece, which can be frustrating and obtuse at times, but just remembering it makes me happy. the soundtrack brings all the memories back every time.

looks like some of these are included in the old license, like custom sorting and categories, and extra widget pages (i don’t really use widgets).

lawnchair actually wasn’t on my radar, mostly because it’s not in the f-droid default repo. i recently added in izzyondroid and it popped up. unfortunately it has no app categories and no way to customize gestures so it’s out. thanks for the suggestion though.

there are tons of open-source launchers that have caught my interest, but none of them are as bare-bones as my SL config.

i have none of the listed features, i am also (apparently) missing adaptive icons, “smart” widgets, folders, and “ultra immersive mode”. not that they have managed to tell me why i need them.

sounds like there isn’t an issue. i have a license without the feature pack, and for that feature pack they want to charge me 20 times what i paid for the app.

the only feature i’m missing is one they removed from my license, icon notifications. that was the first thing in the feature pack way back when, and it wasn’t worth paying extra to get back. no way in hell am i paying for it now.

i’ve been on SL6 since release. currently on 6.4 build 043. but on the version page it says I have an “old license” and wants me to pay $25 to get a new one.

yeah i think 3 var the first version i used. bought the only version available at the time, which said it was a lifetime thing, but starting at v5 it’s been trying to upsell me and it’s frustrating.

did not know about the rotation thing, will try that next time it happens. i’m on 14 so no luck with it being google’s fault
