  • Depends on the features.

Git has some counterintuitive commands for some commands you may want to do when you want to quickly do something. Being able to click a button and have the IDE remember the syntax for you is nice.

Some IDEs have extra non-native Git features like have inlined “git blame” outputs as you edit (easily see a commit message per-line, see who changed what, etc.), better diff/merge tooling (JetBrain’s merge tool comes to mind), being able to revert parts of the file instead of the whole file, etc.

the git integration in vscode which I discarded after few attempts to use

I’m going to be honest, I don’t really like VS Code’s Git integration either. I find it clunky and opinionated with shitty opinions.

There’s kind of a difference between “we scraped the internet and decided to use copyrighted content anyways because we decided to interpret copyright law as not being applicable to the content we generate using copyrighted content” (omegalul) and “we explicitly agreed to a legally-binding contract with Apple stating we won’t do that”.

Nothing concrete from what I can tell. Becoming a hard fork is relatively recent though (mid-November of last year, roughly).

As a side note, I understand why Gitea and Forgejo went for a “copy GitHub Actions” approach to their CI, but man do I wish more self-hosted repo software tried to copy Drone/Woodpecker instead. Iterative containers in the pipeline is such a smoother build experience, and it kind of sucks that Gitness is the only one doing it (that I know of).

  • To be fair, the left images are from Halo 2 and the ones on the right are from Halo 1, so this exact screengrab wouldn’t really be possible to begin with. I’m pretty sure the “doom” meme is a really old Tumblr shitpost that got reposted with different IP/screengrabs over the years (and the RvB one became the popular version?).

  • We had a thing a while back on Lemmy where a bunch of semi-popular instances (including lemmy.world, though they seem to have rolled that back) all defederated from instances that mentioned piracy. I don’t have a problem with piracy. I want to talk about piracy.

If Lemmy ran on a system like Bluesky’s, I wouldn’t have needed to consider making a new account on another instance just because me and the admins disagree on what we want to see on Lemmy.

I get your point, I just think It’s a matter of preference, at the end of the day.

  • Things I wish YouTube would let me do:

    • See dislikes
    • Disable Shorts (uBlock lets me filter them out, at least)
      • At the very least let me control the fucking volume on Shorts instead of muting/unmuting them only if you’re going to force them down my throat (seriously, it makes the entire video format unwatchable on Desktop because every fucking Short video is so god damned loud)
    • Disable holding left-click to fast-forward a video (I do this thing where I’m about to pause a video and hold down the click until they’re done talking and this change is just so fucking stupid, I don’t understand who needs to hold down left click to fast-forward)
    • Actually block channels I’m not interested in
    • Block videos based on keywords
    • Recommend videos based on the one I’m currently watching if my watch history is disabled
      • Seriously, since disabling it YouTube does nothing but recommend “trending” crap that has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m watching

If they’d implement even half of that, my user experience would shoot up through the roof. But, you know, they couldn’t give a rat’s ass about user experience.
