How is it that you, me, everybody, everybody’s cousin, and also the FBI were all fully aware that Trump & Co were guaranteed going to try and cheat the election, and yet the first moment all the republican electors come out and say “Yep Trump wins!! We promise!!” everyone is just accepting this as fact?

I have severe doubts about the validity of these numbers for at least the next several weeks. Republicans have proven repeatedly that they are not going to play fair in any fashion. I don’t believe a damn thing they tell me without receipts for it and we’ve got until January to produce the receipts.

  • I’ll still vote, because it is my duty as a citizen.

Then you aren’t the target of this! Many folks refuse to vote and then act all upset that their wishes aren’t being respected. No shit they aren’t, you haven’t presented any wishes. None of us chose to be responsible for the future of our nation, but if you want to continue to live in a democracy, then you need to contribute to that democracy. It is a duty as a citizen and in my opinion should be mandatory.

Don’t get me wrong though, I completely understand your perspective. Mostly because I’ve felt a lot of it myself. Make no mistake, I am also blaming and bullying the ass off the current US administration that enabled this and the previous generations that allowed it to progress. But shitting on Boomers doesn’t help fix the problems we have today.

Just remember, a state doesn’t vote. People vote. Your state votes red because people in that state vote red. If enough people come out to flip that, then the state vote will flip. Voting in local elections will help ensure this much more than only showing up every 4 years to vote in the presidential.

We still, as of now, have a viable path forward that can prevent bloodshed and collapse of American society. I am going to fight tooth and claw to follow that path if we are able. If we aren’t, then so be it. But I will not suffer apathy to destroy my home. End of story.

Edit: but honestly, is shaming me into voting going to make the system better or is it just to make you feel better about the broken system?

If you go vote, then yes, it has a chance to make the system better. It’s not guaranteed, but nothing is.

Look, if every American goes out and votes in a free and fair election and we still get stuck with a fascist regime, fair enough, I’ll just leave. I can’t ask for more than that from the voting public. But when more than half of America doesn’t vote and then we get stuck with a fascist regime, I won’t abide that. We can and should shame non-voters for that. Your voice matters, and if you won’t grasp that power for yourself, the rest of us will bully you into it because your apathy detrimentally affects all of us.

  • It sounds by all accounts like he went over to Russia and just continued being the exact same man that he was back home. And the Russians of the time loved him.

I aspire to have principles that I stick to with the gusto that Cassius Clay exhibited. I didn’t even know about Clay’s Battalion but I believe it on sight because that sounds like exactly what he would do in that situation.

  • Cassius Marcellus Clay was the son of one of the wealthiest slave owners in America and grew up to be the single most influential and most dangerous abolitionist in American history. He had so many duels with slavers, and won so many of them, that he became statistically the most dangerous duelist to ever exist in North America.

When his cousin, Kentucky senator Henry Clay ran for president, Cassius wanted to come campaign for him down South. Henry vetoed this out of concerns that Cassius would come down south and duel so many slave owners to the death that it could be considered election interference.

The Fat Electrician has an excellent video on the life and times of Clay, I highly recommend it. And if you’re wondering, yes, Muhammad Ali was named after this Cassius Clay.
