  • More of a generic answer as I don’t know the situation there, so hopefully someone local will come around and chime in.

Unfortunately we live in a world where it doesn’t take much money for the movie/music industry corporations to sway the politicians in any country.

So what may be legal today, could very well not be a week, month or year from now and you’d want to stay on top of news like that.

As a general rule of thumb, I’d suggest using a solid VPN, if you’re uncertain about the consequences. I switched Mullvad (would I recommend it? Sure, but only if you’re ready to actually pay for it) and used to use Nordvpn (it’s ok, seems to have become bloated, but sometimes with cashback deals it’s essentially free) and there are plenty more out there depending on your level of comfort in quality of service they actually provide.

Now if someone can confirm what the situation is actually like, it could be anything from “I’m gonna need a n-th NAS with xxx TB capacity to seed all this” through “oh no, another email from my ISP, I need to setup a filter to send these to trash directly” to “who’s that knocking on my door at this time of the day”. In the end it all comes down to your appetite for risk.

  • Few more places to consider if you’re in lower mainland:
Freshco/Chalo if you have the option over Safeway/IGA (same stuff, cheaper, though produce isn’t always super fresh).

Langley farm market for produce is great, often good deals and competes with big chains on prices on said produce, meat, not so much other stuff (again limited access depending on where exactly you live unfortunately).

I’d do Saveon only armed with price matching flyers or I’m after something very specific I can’t find elsewhere. Plus I’m not a huge fan of Jim Patisson or whichever carguy owns it.

City avenue market is also pretty good for produce and the occasional offers for other stuff.

Very location specific - if you like a good bread, check out European bakery in Poco, awesome rye that would cost you 3times as much in some “artisan” bakery and still cheaper than semi decent loaf from big chains.

    Edit-stupid autocorrect

  • This is probably one of your better bets and you’ll learn far more than Lemmy currently has to offer, unless one of those production people who have worked in the industry (like my former colleagues) ends up seeing this.

I know some general stuff, as my work involved having operational knowledge, but not enough to give advice that you’re looking for.

  • It would be fun to see what would happen if single citizen/PR over 18 wasn’t allowed to own more than 2 properties per province, 1 per region and corporations couldn’t own anything that isn’t an apartment building.

I’m sure it’s not that simple to proof it against abuse those useless realtor wankstains like to come up with, perhaps break-up that oligopoly at the same time?

It would still allow couples to technically own 4 homes which does sound like a lot in the long run, but it could be tweaked as things shape up.

A whole bunch of these self proclaimed “communists” are supporting trump/trumpism…started with unfunny memes and well, I think we can all guess where they’re all going to end up.

The funniest part is arguing about current “forms” of communism and capitalism and not realizing that it’s just the same shit from different assholes and a far cry from either.
