I’m not talking about the terminology which I am quite aware of. I’m talking about a feigned nationalism based primarily around foreign issues with an underlying dependence on US trade.

True patriots and nationalists, and yes there are plenty, don’t see this as a fight. They see it as a disappointing loss for the United States. The real “fight” is unfortunately with our own government and their capitulation to a global sense of political subversion that erodes history and establishes ideology as a national identity.

This whole elbows up thing seems very gimmicky. Most of it is based on the dislike of Trump and not pride in our historical achievements. I’m not going to believe these people are patriotic until they start calling for the unboxing of our former Prime Ministers and oppose the renaming of historical parks, universities and roads.

  • Consumer habits is a good place to start. Actually be mindful of what you’re spending money on and your actions. Not sacrificing ethics for convenience. For example, people love working from home. They don’t pay attention to how working remotely funds American tech companies like Microsoft and Google while at the same time reducing the revenue from our public transit systems. Demanding to work from the office will have a bigger impact than posting on American or Chinese owned social media and attending solidarity “elbows up” rallies.

  • The Media is trying to fear monger and like always people are buying it and pretending like they actually know what’s going on.

As of the time of this post our dollar is 0.70 USD. Add 25% to that. .70x.25=17.5 So our dollar with the tariff is still only costing us companies $0.88 on their dollar. Our dollar used to be more than that in the mid 2000’s. They bought from us then and they will continue to buy from us now.

The problem is our own government using counter tariffs. That’s going to increase your cost of living all because orange man bad.

  • It’s funny how everyone here thinks I support the Conservatives because I understand practicalities and different viewpoints.Even though I’ve never voted conservative in my life. I’ve voted in the last 6 federal elections two of which were for the NDP. This is exactly why people consider the left radical. No room for rational practicality, just dogmatic adherence to a narrative.

Get with the programme. People aren’t buying it anymore. It’s almost like you want leftist ideology to flounder. It’s unfortunate that good leftist policies are going to be thrown out with the radical ones but hey, at least you’ll have a villain to fight and add some faux meaning to your lives.
